KEIZER, Ore. - Umpqua Valley Christian is the Class 2A/1A state baseball champion after a 13-9 victory over Knappa on Saturday at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

The Monarchs (26-5 overall), the No. 2-seeded team, upset the top-seeded Loggers (24-5) for their 26th win of the season.

Daniel Withers was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Tyler Haynes was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Logan Anderson, Kevin Shaver and Tygue Barron each had two hits.

One of Withers' three hits was a home run. Haynes tripled while Ty Hellenthal and Barron each smacked doubles.

UVC scored four runs in the first inning, then three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings to hold off Knappa, which stayed in the game thanks to a 5-run fifth.

Pitcher Sean Simonson picked up the win for the Monarchs with Withers getting the save.
