JELD-WEN Field to Host OSAA Football

Beginning this season, the OSAA 6A semifinals and final will be played at the stadium located in downtown Portland.

“The OSAA is excited to host playoff football at JELD-WEN Field,” said Tom Welter, the association’s executive director.  “The stadium’s recent renovations make it the perfect size and a great venue for these marquee games.”

The 6A semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3 followed by the championship game on Dec. 10.

“We very much appreciate their making JELD-WEN Field available to us,” said Welter, citing the cooperation of Portland Timbers’ owner Merritt Paulson and staff in reaching a deal agreeable to the state’s high school association.

JELD-WEN serves as the home field for the Timbers, the city’s Major League Soccer team, as well as the Portland State University football team.

The JELD-WEN Field site, previously known as Multnomah Stadium, Civic Stadium and PGE Park, is etched deep into the history of Oregon high school football, hosting the large school state championship game from 1943 to 1967.  It continued as a venue through the next three decades as the final also was played in Eugene and Corvallis.  The JELD-WEN site hosted championships in 41 of the OSAA’s 69 years sponsoring football, the last in 2002.

The Oregon School Activities Association is a private nonprofit, board governed association comprised of 292 member high schools.  The OSAA, sanctioned by the Oregon State Board of Education and a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations, annually sponsors 118 state championships in 19 sports and activities.
