Local Student-Athletes Recognized

ndvolleyball2011.jpg Some local high school sports teams have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom.

The Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State Awards were given to the seven teams that earned the highest team GPA in the entire state for their activity, regardless of classification.

No Douglas County team won the top award but two volleyball teams, 2A North Douglas (3.86) and 1A Umpqua Valley Christian (3.78), had the highest grade point averages in their individual classifications.

Six other local teams finished in the top ten including: 4A girls cross country, Sutherlin (3.73); 6A boys soccer, Roseburg (3.43); 6A girls soccer, Roseburg (3.70); 4A football, South Umpqua (3.21); and 6A volleyball, Roseburg (3.65).
