Trojans Rush by South Umpqua

dhs_100810.jpgRicky Cortez ran for three scores and David Guthrie caught a pair of touchdown passes as Douglas rolled to a 49-6 Far West League win over South Umpqua Friday night at Loghry Field in Tri City.

The Trojans (1-1, 4-2) got the scoring started late in the opening quarter when quarterback Tyson Dahl hooked up with Guthrie on a 79 yard TD strike. Douglas led 12-0 after the first quarter before stretching the lead to 37-0 at halftime.

Dahl threw for 221 yards in the first half, including a 29 yard touchdown run.

The Lancers (0-2, 2-4) scored their lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 24 yard pass from backup quarterback Blake Johnson to James Simmons.

Elsewhere, Sutherlin (2-0, 6-0) stayed pefect on the season with a 43-14 victory at North Bend; Roseburg also improved to 6-0 with a 49-6 win over South Eugene; and Camas Valley (1-1, 5-1) handed Elkton (1-1, 4-1) its first loss of the year, 64-6.

Oakland (4-1, 4-1) moved into second place in the Mountain View Conference with a 61-24 afternoon win over Days Creek; North Douglas (3-2, 3-3) proved too much for Glendale 42-14; and Yoncalla (3-2) squeaked by Riddle 27-26.
