Panthers Claw Past Roseburg

rhs_fb_093011.jpg Third-ranked Roseburg committed four turnovers in a 28-20 District 1 loss to South Medford Friday night at Finlay Field.

The Indians (2-1, 4-1) jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead, but the fourth-ranked Panthers (3-0, 5-0) scored the next 28 points to take a two touchdown advantage at the break.

Rushing touchdowns by Selmar Hutchins, Javier Mandera and Hayden Lent accounted for all of Roseburg's scoring.

North Bend put up 42 unanswered points in the first two quarters and handed South Umpqua a 62-13 defeat in the Far West League opener for both teams. Dakota Senger returned a kickoff 86 yards for the Lancers only score of the half.

Elsewhere, Douglas beat Brookings-Harbor 42-29; Sutherlin lost to number two Siuslaw 34-14; Central Linn kept Glide winless with a 26-7 victory over the Wildcats; Reedsport downed Siletz Valley 44-42 in overtime; and Elkton beat Prospect 68-28.

Oakland (3-0, 5-0) kept its perfect season alive with a 70-35 win over Oakridge; Monroe (2-0, 4-0) remained a half game back in the Mountain View Conference standings with a 35-6 victory against North Douglas; Glendale (2-2, 3-2) beat Riddle 12-8; and Crow blanked Yoncalla 36-0.
