Roseburg Sacks Sprague in Home Opener

roseburg_090911.jpgHayden Lent tossed three touchdown passes as Roseburg blanked Sprague 48-0 in a non-league football game Friday night at Finlay Field.

Wide receiver Josh Cole caught a pair of TD passes (77, 81) and tailback Javier Mandera (11, 52) scored twice as the Indians improved to 2-0 on the year.

The victory also marked career win number 308 for Roseburg head coach Thurman Bell making him the second winningest football coach in the state's history.

The 41st-year head coach has won four state titles in his career, while leading the Indians to nine state championship appearances.

Elsewhere, Glide dropped its season opener to Harrisburg 7-6; Reedsport downed Neah-Kah-nie 36-12; Days Creek beat Prospect 50-38; and Elkton lost to Mohawk 56-34.  

The Mountain View Conference kicked off its league season as Glendale upended Yoncalla 38-6; Oakland improved to 2-0 on the year with a 50-26 victory over Crow; Riddle was beaten by Monroe 48-0; and North Douglas lost a non-league game to Rogue River 20-12.

On Saturday, Camas Valley improved to 2-0 on the season with a 60-12 win over McKenzie.
