|
Former Roseburg High standout Mitchell Lofstedt is the NAIA's national champion at 125-pounds in college wrestling, following a victory in the championship match Saturday.
Lofstedt defeated Chauncey Philips in a 5-2 decision to take home the title at Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University. His victory contributed to the second-place overall finish for Southern Oregon University, which finished with 120 points behind team champ Nortre Dame, OH, which scored a total of 179.5 points.
Lofstedt pinned Noah Hunt and Taylor Louie in his first two matches before defeating Zach Meury and Angel Olea by decision in the next two rounds. This led to the victory over Philips, who wrestles for California Baptist University, netting him the title.
