|
A poor third quarter proved to be the difference in Umpqua Valley Christian's 87-70 loss to Nixyaawii Friday morning at the OSAA 1A Boys State Tournament in Baker City.
It was a high-scoring affair as the Monarchs (19-10) held a 38-34 halftime lead, but were outscored 34-14 in the third period by the second-ranked Golden Eagles (25-2).
UVC was led by senior Austin Stone's 26 points, including eight three-pointers. Colton Claughton added 16 points and eight rebounds; Alex Barnhart had 14 points.
Friday's loss eliminated the Monarchs from the tournament.
Sutherlin is headed back to the OSAA 4A Girls State Tournament in Corvallis after its 46-44 win over Molalla Friday night at the Dawg House.
This year marks the Bulldogs (21-4) fourth consecutive trip to Gill Coliseum, including a state title in 2008 and a third-place finish last season.
