WILSONVILLE – The OSAA Foundation has issued its largest one-time expenditure since it began in 2005. Nearly $10,000 will be distributed to 13 OSAA member schools to help them implement the ImPACT Concussion program during the 2010-11 school year. Participating schools include Central Catholic, Clatskanie, Cove, Crane, Crescent Valley, La Salle Prep, Madras, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Phoenix, South Umpqua, Tillamook, and Triangle Lake.
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the first, most-widely used, and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. “We feel fortunate to have OSAA Foundation resources available to help these schools implement this concussion management program,” said OSAA Foundation President Tom Welter. “Enhancing the health and safety of student-athletes at schools that might not be able to without our financial support is the exact reason we began the foundation.” In June of 2010, the OSAA Foundation announced the scholarship program to member schools. OSAA member schools completed an application and agreed to subscribe to the ImPACT Program for three years. The OSAA Foundation will cover the entire cost of implementing the program for the first year, including any additional pre- and post-tests and education for each school’s certified athletic trainer. The OSAA Foundation’s first expenditure came in Fall 2006 with the distribution of Anti-Hazing DVDs to all OSAA member schools. In 2007 the OSAA Foundation provided funding for ATLAS and ATHENA health promotion and substance abuse prevention programs for several member schools. |
