Sutherlin's Chelsea Spencer put an exclamation mark on a fantastic junior season with a third-place finish at the OSAA 4A Cross Country State Championships Saturday at Lane Community College in Eugene.
Spencer ran the course in 20:10 finishing behind two runners from Siuslaw.
Three other local runners participated in Saturday's meet including Douglas's Emily James (35); and South Umpqua's Ashley Smith (36) and Kiah McConnell (67).
There were also four local athletes competing on the boys side, including Roseburg's Tim Harker. The senior finished 67th out of 126 runners at the 6A event.
At the 4A championships, Douglas High's Zeke James came in 47th, teammate Brad Ferner was 69th and South Umpqua's Guy Russell was 59th out of 123 participants.
Girls team titles went to Central Catholic (6A); Crater (5A); Henley (4A); and Nyssa (3A/2A/1A).
The boys champions included Jesuit (6A); Summit (5A); Marist (4A); and St. Mary's (3A/2A/1A).
