EUGENE, Ore. - South Umpqua returned to the Class 3A state title game for the first time since 2022 and came away with an upset win.

Using a four-run fourth inning, the No. 7-seeded Lancers defeated top seed Taft, 5-1.

SU pitcher Rudy Vasquez recorded 10 strikeouts in the winning effort.

The Lancers recorded three straight playoff wins to reach the title game with victories over Horizon Christian, Cascade Christian and Creswell before the title win over Taft.

SU finished the season with a 22-9 overall record.
