SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A Sutherlin High School standout has made the decision to continue his sports career at the collegiate level.

Wryland McKnight signed a letter of intent to play both football and baseball at the College of Idaho in Caldwell.

Anticipation is high for the College of Idaho football team as the Coyotes began spring drills Monday afternoon – their third set of Spring Practices since the sport returned to campus in 2013-14, the college said.
 
With a roster filled with primarily underclassmen, the Yotes finished 2015 with a 4-7 record – tied for fourth in the Frontier Conference – with four of their losses by a touchdown or less.
 
"Our goal is simple this year – it is to "Play Up"," said head coach Mike Moroski. "We have made tremendous progress in two short seasons, but a lot of refining must occur so that we can continue to grow in confidence.  We will prepare in every practice to compete with the best programs in the country. Our goal will be to work harder, smarter and better throughout the spring. This will allow our young players to develop so that they can make a huge impact during the exciting 2016 season."

The 2016 season, which will feature 40 additional incoming recruits, will kickoff on Sept. 3 at Simplot Stadium against Montana Western.

The NAIA Coyotes play in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
