NEWBERG, Ore. -- A South Umpqua senior has committed to continuing her athletics career at George Fox University in Newberg.

Lancer Alexis Westbrooks participated in the university's Athletic Committment Day Friday and signed to play softball for the Bruins.

"I chose George Fox because I love how welcoming the campus felt," Westbrooks said. "I met coach Jessica Hollen at the Nike sports camp, and I realized how tight-knit the softball team was, and that was exactly what I was looking for."

A middle infielder, Westbrooks earned Far West League honorable mention honors in 2015 and first-team all-league honors as an infielder in 2014.

She was also an honorable mention all-state infielder in 2014 when she helped her team win a Far West League title.
