CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A South Umpqua senior endured two days of NCAA-level tryouts at Oregon State University and after the final cuts were announced, Megan Boyé learned she had made the team.
The tryout to become a Beaver was a two-day process, beginning with a session where competitors had to learn a dance and the OSU Fight Song in 30 minutes.
Immediately afterward, the hopefuls were judged at four different stations: dance, Fight Song, partner stunting and tumbling.
Those who competed were required to be able to perform a standing back handspring & tuck and a running combination of back handspring into a tuck.
The cuts were made that day, following the tryout sesions.
The second day consisted of one mat in the center of OSU's Gill Coliseum, where Boye joined others who had made the team for more training.
Megan cheers for South Umpqua High School and participates in competitive cheer.
She was a member of the 2016 State Champion All Girl Stunt Team.
She's also a member of All Stars Cheer for TNT Gym in Medford, where she travels three days a week for practice and competes on the weekends in Washington, Oregon, and California.
She received the Booster Club 'Flier of the Year' award 2016 and was recently asked to cheer at this year's Shrine Bowl football game in August.
In academics, Megan scored a 4.46 GPA on her most recent report card and was named Lions Club 2016 Student of the Year.
She says she will study engineering at Oregon State.
