ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg High School students are raising money for Saving Grace Animal Shelter.

Over the weekend, students ran a 5k in the rain; they paid to participate and raised over $700 for the local shelter.

The event was started this year by an eleventh grader and featured face painting and snacks.

"We call it the run, walk and rescue," said event organizer and RHS student Miranda Campbell. "It's just a way to get the student body involved within the community and we'd like to help support our local Saving Grace because we all love animals."

Students started their route at RHS and then ran under the I-5 bridge and around Gaddis Park before following the trail back to the school.

Campbell says she hopes the event becomes an annual tradition at Roseburg High.
