ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Roseburg's Pepsi Bottlecaps kicked off the 2016 summer legion baseball season with a shutout victory.

Brendan Ibarra was 2-for-5 at the plate with a 2-RBI triple and 4 runs scored as the Bottlecaps took an 8-0 season opening win over Ashland at Legion Field Friday.

Jacob Westwang was 3-for-4 and Luke Lucido 3-for-5 with 2 RBI for the Pepsi squad.

Zach Mandera, Cody Johnson, Brett Jackson and Josh Alexander combined to throw a 9 inning shutout, striking out 10 Ashland batters.

Elsewhere in single-A baseball, the Umpqua Lions opened the season with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss in 12 innings at North Jackson on Wednesday.

Roseburg's Dr. Stewart's open their 2016 season Saturday against the Mid Valley Rockets with a 6 p.m. contest at Legion Field.
