ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Dr. Stewart's fall short in the American Legion baseball season opener against the Mid Valley Rockets.

After leading 3-2 at the end of the first inning, the Docs fell behind 9-4 before scoring 4 runs in the 8th inning to narrow the gap, but the Albany-based squad held on for a 9-8 victory.

The Docs hit the road Monday with non-league twin bill against the Portland Barbers.

Area 4 Conference play begins Wednesday when the Docs host Grants Pass for two league counters.
