EUGENE, Ore. -- The Roseburg Renegades Junior State baseball team split with Thurston Red in a league doubleheader Tuesday in Eugene just two days after finishing a three-day tournament in Hillsboro.

Roseburg won the opener 6-2.

Stephen Assed went the distance for the win, giving up no earned runs and striking out 7 in 7 innings of work.

"We kept battling at the plate, which finally came through in the 6th with 4 runs," coach Tim Sustaire said.

Mason Littlefield was 2-for-4 and Luke Van Norman 2-for-3. Doran Gillespie doubled.

In the nightcap, the Renegades had plenty of offense and pounded out 18 hits, but Thurston Red still won the slugfest 15-12.

"We were very offensive but couldn't make the routine plays which ended up costing us the game," Sustaire said.

It was the first league loss for the Renegades, who fell to 4-1 following the split.

Roseburg travels to North Medford Wednesday for a non-league doubleheader at 12 p.m.
