CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Glide High School grad and former Dr. Stewart's player Jacob Fricke turned in a successful performance in his first start for the West Coast League's Corvallis Knights Friday, helping the home team to an 8-2 victory.

Fricke, a current pitcher at Western Oregon University in the spring, allowed one run and had three strikeouts in three innings for the Knights in their win over the Polk County Growlers of Monmouth.

Corvallis improved to 18-8 overall following the non-leagure contest.

The West Coast League is a summer wood bat league for college-eligible student-athletes in the Pacific Northwest.

According to the league website, it's dedicated to accelerating prospect development, increasing player exposure and bettering its member communities "by providing best-of-breed leadership, best-in-class competition, best-in-West Coast ballparks, memorable life experiences, and affordable entertainment in an environment that fosters organization, professionalism, promotion, competition, fun and innovation with the utmost integrity and respect for its players and the game."

Corvallis plays in the league's south division, where they sit in first place (at 13-8) ahead of Yakima Valley (14-11).
