CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Roseburg's Umpqua Lions kicked off the 8-team Oregon 'A' American Legion Baseball State Tournament in Central Point Wednesday morning.

The Lions suffered a 7-1 loss to North Jackson a first round game at Anhorn Field.

The Roseburg squad scored first and led 1-0 in the second inning before the Royals scored 7 unanswered runs.

Trevor Melhoff led Umpqua with 2 hits and scored the Lions' only run.

Riley Westbrooks and Andrew Harrington each had one hit in the game.

North Jackson improved to 24-11 overall on the season; Umpqua fell to 14-19.

The Lions will try to battle back through the elimination bracket with a 9 a.m. game Thursday against La Grande.
