ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg adult football team has switched gears and will now play in a full 11-man football league after initially planning to play a 9-man schedule.

The new Roseburg Valley Thunder football team was initially a part of the National Nineman Football League along with local rival, the Douglas County Timberwolves.

According to team officials, over 30 players have signed on to play and the decision was made to switch to the 11-man Pacific Northwest Football League.

The PNFL is a start up amateur, full contact league serving adults in the greater Portland market, the league's website says.

The league's inaugural season was in early 2016.

It was organized to create "a truly one of a kind football experience that does not just begin and finish on game day – it lasts all week," the league's website says.

The league plays two seasons each year -- one in January and another in the summer, the website says.
