EUGENE, Ore. -- The Roseburg Renegades are the 2016 Oregon state champion for Junior State Baseball Division II.

The Renegades wrapped up the title with a 4-3 win over West Salem in the championship game Sunday at Willamette High School in Eugene.

"What a game; the kids battled to get the title," Renegades coach Tim Sustaire said. "Unreal performance by Jett Black on the bump. Lots of big hits by Gillespie, Six, Brelage. Much respect to West Salem and their program; they were a quality opponent."

The coach said his team's philosphy and resilience paid dividends this season.

"What a great way to end the season. The kids bought into the one-game-at-a-time mentality. Never gave up, never lost focus; a total team effort."

Sustaire also thanked the fans, parents, grandparants and families who followed the Renegades this summer.

"The Roseburg Renegade family travels well," he said. "Thanks to all of our sponsors and to everyone that helped with fundraising; couldn't have done everything that we did without you."

The Roseburg squad defeated Wilson in the semifinals Saturday to reach the title game.

In the quarterfinals, they edged South Medford in an extra innings thriller.

The Renegades sat out on day one after earning a first round bye.
