Thirteen Douglas County teams kicked off the 2016 football season on Friday.

Douglas lost its home opener 41-28 to Valley Catholic; Sutherlin was upended by Oakland 18-6 and South Umpqua was beaten by Mazama 49-13.

Jonathan Warner scored the Lancers first TD of the season on a 24 yard reception from senior quarterback Cody Gray; and Justin York added an 80 yard TD run for SU's only other score.

Elsewhere, Gresham beat Roseburg 23-6; Glide pounded Bandon 33-8; Reedsport breezed by Gaston 37-7; North Douglas lost to Powers 42-22; Elkton picked up a big road win at Yoncalla 48-46; Riddle got by Glendale 56-42; and Camas Valley beat Adrian 42-22 at the Eight Man Classic in Dufur.
