RENO, Nev. – Freshman Cora Gallop recorded a 16-second personal record Friday morning as the Nevada Wolf Pack cross country team crossed the finish at the Mountain Regional Championships, the college said at its website. Gallop is an Oakland High School graduate.

Leading Nevada, Gallop crossed the finish line in 20:52 to get under 21 minutes for the first time in her young career. She placed 22nd in the talented field. Following her was freshman Hiley Dobbs, placing 73rd and finishing in 22:05 and sophomore McKenna Evans, who crossed the finish line in 86th with a time of 22:20. Overall, the Wolf Pack placed 13th at the championship race.

“I’m really happy with my personal record,” Gallop said. “That was my goal in this race. This being my first cross country season ever, I’m really happy with it and I love the team I’ve gotten to run with. I love these girls.”

Gallop stuck to the middle of the Pack for the first third of the race around the west loop.

As she crossed the canal bridge into the rolling grassy and gravel east loops, she began to pass runner after runner, moving into to top fifth of the field. As the former triple jumper hit the home stretch she charged to pass a few more runners to cross the finish line in 22nd.

Nevada cross country’s season has come to end, highlighted by strong performances from a large freshman class and solid races from the upper class.
