South Umpqua's valiant comeback effort fell short in a 34-21 quarterfinal loss to Cascade Friday night at Finlay Field in Roseburg. 

The Cougars scored a pair of first quarter touchdowns to take a 12-0 lead before the Lancers answered with an 11 yard touchdown pass from Cody Gray to Jonathan Warner.

15th-ranked Cascade added two more scores to stretch its lead to 26-7 at the break.

The 7th-ranked Lancers (6-4) cut the lead in the 3rd quarter to 26-14 on a 27 yard pass from Justin Thompson to quarterback Cody Gray.

SU scored again on a 21 yard pass from Justin York to Chris Martinez to narrow the lead to 26-21, but the Cougars (6-3) put the game away with a late touchdown ending the Lancers' season.
