OAKLAND, Ore. -- The Oakland baseball team is a step closer to playing for a state championship.

The Oakers held off Nestucca 10-6 Wednesday afternoon at Oakland High School to advance to the quarterfinals of the OSAA Class 2A/1A State Baseball Championships.

The Oakers are seeded #6 in the tourney. Nestucca, seeded #11, finished their season with a 12-7 recod.

Oakland (21-5 overall) travels to #3 seed Regis (17-1) for the quarterfinal on Friday. The Rams defeated Bonanza 10-1 in their match-up Wednesday.

8th-seeded Umpqua Valley Christian was also victorious, advancing to the 2A/1A quarterfinals with a 4-2 win over #9 Pilot Rock.

The Monarchs face #1-seeded Dufur Friday at 4:30 at Quinton Street Ballpark in The Dalles.

#5 Reedsport is also in the quarters following an 8-0 win over 12th-seeded North Douglas.
