KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- An Area 4 League rival of Roseburg's Dr. Stewart's is the 2017 triple-A American Legion Baseball state champion for Oregon.

Area 4 League champ Medford defeated the Post 20 Dirtbags of Dallas Sunday at Kiger Stadium in Klamath Falls to take home the Oregon state title.

It was the second time the Mustangs had defeated Dallas in the tourney. The title game went 10 innings, with Medford prevailing 11-9.

The Mustangs, who went undefeated at the state tourney, advance to the Northwest Regional, August 2-6, in Missoula, Mont.

Medford won the Area 4 this season with a 16-4 league record, one game ahead of 2nd-place Grants Pass (15-5). The Nuggets struggled at state, losing an opening round game to host team Klamath Falls (2-18 in Area 4) before winning a loser-out game against Mid-Valley of Albany and losing the next day to Portland's Eastside Barbers.

3rd-place league finisher Eugene went 2-2 at state and was eliminated by Dallas on the fourth day of play.

The other two Area 4 teams, Willamette Valley (9-11) and Roseburg (8-12), did not play in the state tourney this year.
