ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Assessments for local Umpqua Valley Cal Ripken baseball players are scheduled for this Saturday, February 17, at Gaddis Park.

This is for the drafted divisions only.

Minors AAA is from 1-2:30 p.m. and Majors are 3-4:30 p.m. It's recommend you arrive 30 minutes early to have the players sign in and get warmed up.

Players will be given a number to wear during the assessments for the coaches to keep notes on each player. A few days after the assessments, a draft will be held (only coaches involved) and coaches will select players based on their bib number given to them at the assessments, the organization said, sressing that player names will not be displayed.

There will only be the draft designator and facilitator that will know what names belong to what numbers. They ask each player to bring a helmet, glove, and bat. Due to the location being moved outside, players may also wear cleats.

Any player that does not go through the assessments will be assigned a number and considered a "blind pick" - a coach can draft a "blind pick" at any time during their turn. "If we have late registration kiddos for these 'drafted' divisions, they are assigned to the team that would have picked next," the organization said.

This is only for drafted divisions AAA and Majors, the organization said.

"Please have your kiddo signed up by February 17th even if they aren't subject to the draft (outlier or rollover); otherwise, they will be subject to late registration fee," oreganizers say. "In addition, for the 2018 season there are no head coach refunds."

There will be a coaches meeting a half hour before each division to review the assessment process and draft. Organizers ask coaches to bring a pencil, paper and clipboard if you have one.
